The Charyn Canyon stretches out 154 kilometers across the open spaces of the Charyn national park. The canyon is 200 kilometers from the city of Alma-Ata, and is almost reaches the border with China. The Charyn canyon is a nique nature monument that consists of sediment, which is more than 10 million years old. The height of its steep mountains reaches 300 meters. The Valley of castles is the most popular among tourists. And there is nothing surprising - walls of the canyon are eroded in an unimaginably strong way, and unusual forms allow everyone to see something special in them. The valley is rather small - about two kilometers in length with a width of 20-80 meters.
Two groves are located In the bosom of the canyon. One of them - is the world-famous Ashen grove where the rare species of this beautiful tree grows. The second, but slightly less known is the Turanga grove, a grove of a relic turanga, or an Asian poplar. But the variety of landscape of the canyon doesn't come to an end, a huge number of flora and fauna is presented here. Over 2000 plant species grow here, about 20 of which are included into the Endangered Species List of Kazakhstan. The canyon is a habitat for 63 species of mammals, 101 species of nesting birds and 25 species of reptiles. If you want to get the full experience of enjoying the nature of this place, it is the best to come here on a weekday. On workdays it is usually incredibly quiet here, it is possible to see, for example, rare species of falcons (they used to build nests on the territory of the canyon, but now it is very noisy here). In the spring, with any luck, it is possible to see a hare. But if visiting this place during the week doesn’t work out, this incredibly beautiful nature will tune out the noise and fuss of a weekend.
Quite often on the Internet it is possible to see comparisons of this place with "the Grand Canyon" Which everyone is familiar with. Honestly, if you look at photos, you can't immediately find any differences between these two gifts of the nature.
